Only 4 km far from the Bardejov town center there is an important part of the town, Bardejovske Kupele - the spa, which belongs to the most visited spa centers in Slovakia not only for the healing effects of its mineral waters and its high standard of expert care, but also because of its quiet and tranquil setting. Uncommon beauties together with culture-historical sights provide the visitors medical treatment combined with a rich cultural and social life.
It is undoubtedly ideal for those who want to experience really peaceful holiday in quiet surroundings, do something for healthy living and enjoy the loveliest corner of Slovakia. The spa is located away from all the motorways and main roads and thus it is kept from over-visiting. Bardejov spa is surrounded by beautiful woods, where you can enjoy long walks along well-kept trails (25 km).
Cultural life in the spa is rich. An International Music Festival takes place every year during the summer season. Sharish Museum opened two expositions here: the Museum of Folk Architecture and the Ethnological Museum.
As for sports, you can play tennis, basketball, volleyball, or mini-golf, or devote your time to horseback riding or swimming.
According to the present state of medical theory and practice, spa treatment in Bardejov Spa is indicated
against diseases and conditions that are recorded in high and exceptionally massive occurrence. Diseases that are
treated here require complex treatment care. Geographic location of the spa, its microclimate, natural surrounding
and mineral waters create suitable conditions for positive treatment process.
There are 10 springs of mineral water in Bardejov Spa. They resulted from infiltrating rainfall water
through flysch layers, collecting minerals and at the same being gassed with carbon dioxide originating in deeper
parts of the earth crust. 10 mineral springs spew on a small inner area of Bardejov Spa. They are the most famous
flysch mineral waters in Slovakia. Mineral water means natural water that contains certain amount of solids or gases
dissolved in it, or natural water of certain temperature. Based on chemical and physical analysis Bardejov mineral
waters have the following classification: Natural curative, slightly or medium mineralised hydrogen-carbonic-chloride,
sodium, ferrous, carbonic, cold, hypo-tonic water with higher content of borane acid.
Whole mineralisation of the springs varies between 1,600 mg/l and 9,400 mg/l.. Content of carbon dioxide in a
litre of mineral water varies from 2,200 mg to 3,800 mg.
Anions: chlorides, hydrogen-carbonates, fluorides, sulphates, hydrogen-phosphates, iodides, and bromides;
Healing water is unique by the fact it has wide variability and therefore various possibilities of
application as well. Based on chemical analysis of mineral waters of individual springs as well as scientific
justification and long-term experience, local waters are used according to the type and character of disease either
by internal or external balneotherapy, which is carried out in a complex sanatorium called Kupelny dom (Spa House).
Healing effect is reached by repeated drinking of a certain amount of healing water within longer time and as per
physician's prescription. Quality of mineral waters and their balneal therapeutic affects were considered based on
the content of the main elements of physical and chemical substances and dissolved gases only. With progress
in biochemistry it has been shown that trace elements are very important for human body and many processes in it,
which gives water suitable application during treatment of diseases that use other healing procedures and steps.

The complex therapeutic program consists of mineral water consumption, mineral baths, and treatments involving physical, electrical, magnetic and light procedures. All of these are continuously being updated and adapted based on new medical knowledge. Inseparable parts of the therapy are careful diet, the local climate, the treatment regime, and the so-called "terrain cures" involving use of a specially adjusted trail.
Baths
Pearl bath
The temperature of the mineral water in a pearl bath is 35-37°C (95-99F). Bubbles blasted in water micromassages skin and thus supports congestion and overall body relaxation.
Mineral water bath
35-38°C (95-100F) mineral water bath improves congestion, balances blood pressure, contributes to mental relaxation, improves the balance of minerals in the body.
Bath with ingredients
Has positive effects on locomotive organs, releases muscular tension, relieves pain. Bath contains herbal or peloid ingredients.
Thermotherapy
Paraffin packs
Melted paraffin is applied to the affected body parts. The heat has a positive effect on arthritis, joints mobility and blood circulation. Paraffin gloves have a cosmetic side effect, leaving skin on the hands softer and finer.
Moor (peat) Bath
Peat mixed with hot mineral water is spread on affected parts of the body. The peat slowly releases heat and improves mobility of the locomotive system and digestive systems, reducing aching and soreness. Absorption of minerals from the peat by the skin is an added benefit.
Massages
Classical massage:
Traditional manual massage using specific regeneration emulsions helping you to relax and eliminate pain in your muscles.

Pulsed magnetic field supplementation balances magnetic fields in and around the body resulting in significant sleep and recuperation effects, and substantially enhanced flexibility, strength, and stamina within just a few days; sharpened concentration, hand-eye, balance and motor 'synchronization' within just a few hours.
Galvanisation
The Galvanisation Treatment eases pain, stimulates metabolism and have a vasodilating effect. It helps to absorb medicaments into the problematic part of the body, thus avoiding to affect the whole body.
Therapeutic Ultrasound
During Ultrasound Treatment ease of pain can be achieved by micromassage techniques and warming up of tissues. Overall effects are decreased pain, improved metabolism and congestion, released muscular tension and elimination of degenerative changes in muscles and bones.
Curative Physical Training
Motion therapy
Individual therapeutic physical exercise Therapeutic physical exercise in swimming pool
Joga
Calanetics
Exercise under supervision of physiotherapeutists.
Other procedures
Inhalations
High therapeutic effect is reached due to the inhalation of mineral water with curative ingredients prescribed by a physician
Gas injections
The hypodermic application of medical CO2. The gas is applied on acupressure sites. The therapy has anti-pain, anti-inflammatory and also relaxation effects.
Acupuncture
A three thousand year old Chinese system of healing and pain relief, where fine needles are inserted at key points of the body that relate to different organs (energy or meridian points as in acupressure). Relieves pain from muscular, neurological and arthritic conditions.
Flask therapy
Flask therapy is a relaxation method where warm flasks are attached on acupressure points and the overall effect is similar with that of acupuncture.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is an advanced therapy in which the practitioner uses a range of specialized and gentle rhythmic pumping techniques to move the skin in the direction of the lymph flow. This stimulates the lymphatic vessels that carry substances vital to the defense of the body, and removes waste products. Colon hydrotherapy Colon problems such as colitis, ileitis and diverticulitis can be directly addressed by colon hydrotherapy
Oxygen therapy
Oxygen is administered by inhalation. The importance of oxygen therapy for many patients with heart and lung diseases is now universally recognized.
